These are the people who work at Covenant Church.

Bob Myers

Bob Myers, Senior Pastor

I think being a pastor is the greatest job in the world. I get to work with great people and spend time studying the greatest book. I’ve been privileged to serve as a pastor for 22 years, and at Covenant since 2002.
The highlights for me are the incredible people I have been able to know and serve alongside, the conversions I have witnessed, and the privilege of teaching systematically through the Bible and then seeing the powerful effect the Word of God has in changing lives.
Christ invaded my life when I was in high school. I was a church organist, and I had pretty much memorized the hymnal, but I noticed that the message of the hymns was radically different than the message from the pulpit. The sermons were often psycho-babble, “be nice” kind of nonsense, or at best, focused on Christ as Example, not Christ as God in the flesh who had to die a horrific death to save us. The hymns stressed that we were wretches and completely unable to save ourselves. This conflict drove me to the Bible, and to key people who I knew took the Bible seriously. In the midst of this, I remember reading an article on the Crucifixion in Rolling Stone magazine that left me speechless and slain on the floor. When I got up, I was born again. I knew I was a wretch and that Jesus was the Redeemer who suffered the hell I deserved. By His grace, I’ve never looked back.
My wife and I met as students in seminary. Our first date was the basketball movie “Hoosiers” (filmed in my hometown at the gym I played basketball in).  I am passionately enthusiastic about the privilege of being a husband and a father. I am grateful for a wife who is also my closest friend. We have five children whose ages range from twelve to twenty-one, and who amaze us with their diverse talents.
My favorite thing about Covenant is the freedom we have in divine grace, and the committed lives that grow out of Christ’s grace. Out of this grace grows a commitment to substantive preaching that explains and applies the scriptures. Grace also allows Covenant to put up with me!
Hobbies? I am slowly turning my entire backyard into a garden, not so much the pretty kind, but the kind that produces food. I’m into exercise, partly cause I’m into eating. And since I don’t have grandchildren, if you wanna hear me brag non-stop, ask me about my Jeep Wrangler……. Contact Bob Myers.

John Marcott

John Marcott, Pastor of Ministry Development

I just finished a drunken fistfight with one of my closest friends over something forgetful and insignificant. I remember feeling so alone, so unloved, so unlovable. How had I become such a drug- and drink-abusing, people-using person? In the middle of an empty, abandoned lot, I prayed out, possibly for the first time in my life, “God, You know about love. Please, make me a loving person.” Not long after that night, a friend’s mother gave me a copy of the New Testament. I couldn’t get enough of that book! I read it cover-to-cover a few times that summer. Probably the first installment of God’s answer to my prayer was showing me a love I couldn’t resist (His own!). One night I knelt by my bed and prayed, “Jesus, if You really are God, and You died for me, I must live for You.” Surprisingly, I had never been a reader before but my first year in college I came across John Stott’s Basic Christianity (a book I’ve read over a half dozen times since then) and St. Augustine’s The City of God. If you’ve been to my office, you’ll know I’ve never stopped reading! I was fortunate to be trained and mentored by an InterVarsity Christian Fellowship staff member. I eventually worked for IVCF on college campuses with its emphasis on daily quiet time of prayer and Bible Reading, inductive Bible studies and small group Bible discussion groups. That has remained my passion throughout life. As Director of Ministry Development at Covenant, part of my greatest joys is overseeing our small group ministry, working with Bible study leaders and selecting curriculum. It is also my privilege to work alongside developing teachers and leaders in the church in its various ministries. If you have an idea for a new ministry or wonder how to join a small group, then I'm your guy and would love to talk with you! It is a joy to be serving at Covenant along with Bob Myers, a man whom I have the utmost respect for his insightful mind, tender heart and Christ-centered vision and ministry. I am joined in ministry by my beautiful wife, Julie, who is bright, has a great sense of humor and is my best friend and confidant. We have two children, Caleb and Eden, who are our endless joy and who keep us on our toes! Being surrounded and supported by our Covenant family has meant so much to all of us.  Contact John Marcott.

Micah Skipper, Director of Worship

I had the blessing of growing up in a home where both of my parents were committed Christians and sought daily to teach me and my five siblings about God. At the age of 4, my parents hosted a Back Yard Bible Club (BYBC) at our house where the gospel message was clearly presented. After this message was given, I prayed with the BYBC leader for Christ to become my Lord and Savior. Even at that early age I realized that God was doing something within me.

In high school I attended youth group at Christ Covenant Church in Charlotte and was also a team member on two trips to Romania my junior and senior year. It was on these trips that the Lord began to work in my heart in calling me into full time ministry. After graduating from Western Carolina University, I joined the youth staff at Christ Covenant and began seminary, to pursue a career in youth ministry. Shortly thereafter I started leading the youth worship band and soon realized that the Lord was calling me into worship ministry and my heart’s desire was to be a worship director. A year and a half ago I began training under the Worship Pastor at Christ Covenant to learn all about directing a corporate worship service and further improve my skills as a musician. I am passionate about intergenerational worship that engages the heart, mind, and body so that all benefits attaining to Christ in His life, death, and resurrection might be known more wholly, loved more deeply, and seen more clearly.

My bride, Catherine, and I met after college at Christ Covenant and I wasted no time asking her out. A few years later we were married.  Though we were sad to leave behind the sweet tea, fried chicken, and no toll roads of the South, we are very excited to be at Covenant and look forward to serving in ministry here.  Contact Micah Skipper

Josh Crum

Josh Crum, Pastor to Students

I joined the staff at the end of July 2009. I am a man of many passions. I love reading, traveling, playing the drums, watching movies, listening to music (preferably obscure bands that aren't mainstream so I can sound connected and "in-the-know"), and playing sports (my faves are volleyball and baseball). If you keep score and wear uniforms, I'm interested.

I've been married since 2005 to my amazing wife, Bethany. I knew she was the one for me when we were watching tv and I got chastised for turning the channel away from a basketball game. I love serving together with her. I am also grateful that I am taller than she is. If I wasn't, I wouldn't stand a chance against her in basketball (she's good).

Working with students is such a blast. The middle school and high school years can be great, but they can also be a tremendous challenge. Navigating the waters of peer pressure and trying to fit in while maintaining your own individuality is incredibly difficult. My goal is be accessible and available to students while developing a team of leaders to invest in their lives and walk with them along their journey.

I'm excited to be here at Covenant and see what God has in store for the student ministries. If there is anything I can do to help you get connected, whether it's answering questions or reaching out to someone, please let me know.  Contact Josh Crum.

Andrew Poe- Director of Children's Ministry

I am a recovering Pharisee. That means I used to think that if I was just good and did enough good things God would be happy with me and my efforts. In other words, I believed that the gospel saved me but that I needed to put in a lot of work after salvation if I wanted to be accepted and loved by God. That completely discredits the cross of Christ! When I came to understand that Christ died both for all of the horrible sins in my life as well as for all of my "good works" which fed into my pride I was finally able to see what GRACE was all about!

Thankfully, God does not quit on us. God used many tools to sharpen and shape me. During college, I joined a church that grounded me in grace and the richness of God's Word as well as provided authentic community where I did not have to hide behind a veil of appearing "ok". That freed me to really be the man God called me to be IN CHRIST.

Thus, once I finished my degree in Elementary Ed, I was grateful for the opportunity to teach for a few years at Phil-Mont Christian Academy. From the time I was in eigth grade, I loved working with children in some capacity- but this job gave me the chance to really use my newfound passion for God's grace in a whole new way! For the next dozen years, I continued to teach Sunday School: I loved both working with the children and interacting with their parents. Because of this, I decided to pursue an MDiv at seminary (I will finish that up in another year).

It was because of all these experiences that I came to realize my passion for children in a covenant community. I loved the idea of influencing children and supporting their parents. This is what led me to Covenant Church! I was thrilled to find out that Covenant was seeking a Director of Children's Ministry!  I have already been blessed by the community here and I look forward to blessing the children and families of the church through my work as the Director of Children's Ministry.

The Father has blessed me with an amazing family - my wife Katrina is a great source of encouragment and joy as we love to laugh together; my son Hudson and daughter Evelyn are sweet blessings in my life too. I love spending time with my family. I also love reading, writing, watching movies, exercising and just growing in relationships with friends - it is through relationships that the Spirit of God is seen the most. I have seen how, just as the Father, Son, and Spirit are in committed community, God's covenant people are also in community because of the common bond of the Spirit. This is most clearly seen in the families. Click here to Contact Andrew.

Kim Hathaway - Administrator

I grew up in the church, faithfully going with my family on Sundays – including retreats, pot lucks and progressive dinners. I was involved with the youth group and even a part of a Clown Ministry (yes, I was a clown and have pictures to prove it!) I remember when I left my home to move across country with my husband Dave, my mom hugged me and said “I hope you find a good church home!” Well it took two states, 6 years and visiting a handful of churches but I finally found my church home. My first Sunday at Covenant a member said she had been on vacation for a few weeks and really missed Covenant. I filled out a visitor’s card regarding the music ministry and the Pastor said “Go talk with Sean”. My first Christmas Eve service, a lady tapped me on the shoulder and said “It’s hard trying to hold a hymnal, a lit candle and wipe away tears at the same time.” Well I think those three things alone told me I was where God wanted me to be. 7 months later I was interviewed for my current position here and that sealed the deal! I have been married to Dave for 22 yrs. He is very involved in the community as the President of Midway Volunteer Fire Company, the Captain of the Honor Guard and he is on the board of the National Fallen Fighter’s Foundation. We currently have four Maine Coon cats – our little furry bundles of joy.  Please contact Kim Hathaway

Bob Clark - Facilities Manager

From cleaning and maintenance to special projects, Bob is the guy who makes sure we’re all comfortable and able to use the tool of our facility. When he’s not tired out from scouring the building Bob enjoys cycling. He’s also a lifelong Red Sox fan, which says something about his perseverance and upbeat attitude.
